In the car today…

Ilyana: “Knock knock.”

Daddy: “Who’s there?”

Ilyana: “Nana.”

Daddy: “Nana who?”

Ilyana: “Green circle!”

Ilyana: “Knock knock.”

Daddy: “Who’s there?”

Ilyana: “Nana.”

Daddy: “Nana who?”

Ilyana: “Knock knock.”

Daddy: “Who’s there?”

Ilyana: “Nana.”

Daddy: “Nana who?”

Ilyana: “Green circle!”

Ilyana: “Knock knock.”

And so it continued, until we started singing something to distract her.

The saga continues of the child with no fear.  We have two stories to share today.

Earlier this week, given the glorious weather, Ilyana and I decided to go for a walk.  It was late enough that I didn’t want to go to the park, but early enough that burning off some energy was a good thing.  So, we put on our coats and started walking down the street.  After about half a block, Ilyana decided that holding hands was for suckers, and struck off on her own.  Every attempt to regain her hand was met with a very distinct “nyoh” and the universal baby gesture for “leave me alone Mommy” (emphatic shaking of the arms).  So I had to deter her in other ways from getting into people’s gardens, exploring their front steps, and traipsing on the boulevards (very narrow boulevards).  Fortunately, she more or less was the most interested in plowing forward, seeing how far her little legs could take her.  Even more fortunately, she stops at road crossings.

The best moment of Adventurous Baby in this walk was about three blocks in she stopped dead, made a very satisfied grunt, and whipped around to return home.  Which she did, in much the same fashion as her foray away from home.

The second story comes from our swim class (pictures forthcoming).  She has been greatly enjoying every moment in the water, and not enjoying every moment the instructor has us sit them on the edge of the pool.  It’s all in the name of educating them to not jump in until the count of three, but she is not amused.  Given her tendency to crawl into the deep end and push away from Mommy and Daddy, I decided to let her see what happens when she pushes away.  So, away she pushed, under she went, up she came in Mommy’s arms and…she had the biggest smile on the planet.  And wants to do it again.

So, we will continue to go on walks, play in the water, and keep a VERY close eye on Adventurous Baby.
